News report.

For today’s task you need to write a news report. Think about the natural disaster you have been researching. What warning signs are there that your disaster will happen? What safety precautions need to be taken.

Write your report as though it was being presented on the news. What is the attention grabbing line that you will use to gain attention for your news report? Use that as the topic for you post.

At 10:30 you should have posted your news report and then spend some time exploring each other’s sites and commenting on the posts.

Scrumdidilyuptious!

Willy Wonka: Don’t you know what this is?

Violet Beauregarde: By gum, it’s gum!

Willy Wonka: Wrong! It’s the most fabulous sensational gum in the whole world!

Violet Beauregarde: What’s so fab about it?

Willy Wonka: This little piece of gum is a three course dinner.

Mr. Salt: Bull.

Willy Wonka: No, roast beef. But I haven’t got it quite right yet.

Describe the most delicious tasting food you can think of. Pretend you are Violet (before she turned Violet) eating the gum thast tastes like a three course dinner. What can you taste? How does it make you feel? What happens to you when you get the end of the third course?

Be creative. Think like Willy Wonka.

Willy Wonka: Invention, my dear friends, is 93% perspiration, 6% electricity, 4% evaporation, and 2% butterscotch ripple.

Post your entry on your blog. Find a picture of some of your courses and include it in your entry.

Welcome back! Term 4 OMG!

Writing task today: Rants and Ravings.

What is something you are passionate about? What is something that ticks you off?

Even as I write this I can hear a voice in my head of a past student who wrote her own rant about adults using terms such as OMG and LOL. She believed that people over the age of 25 should not use such ‘cool’ terms.

After having spent the past two weeks with family and friends I’m sure you’ve got a lot to complain about. Don’t get me wrong, of course school holidays are AWESOME but being at school is way better – is it not? My rant is about hoidays in general.

Being a teacher, EVERYBODY goes on about all the school holidays we get and that we should never complain. Well I beg to differ. The first week of MY holidays was spent suffering from man flu. Man flu is worse than the regular flu because it’s not really bad but annoying. The first day was a sore throat, the next day was a headache, then body aches, then snotty nose and then to top it all off my first ever ear infection. I’ve never had one before and OMG did it hurt. What was most annoying about the whole week was that I wasn’t actually sick but had little symptoms. If you’re sick properly you can go to the doctors and get some medicine and all will be well again but I wasn’t actually sick just feeling rubbish every day with a different ailment each time. To top this off I went back to gym after having a month off with the wedding and honeymoon. I hurt every single muscle in my body in one session! Didn’t help with the man flu symptoms. Anther reason why school holidays for teachers aren’t all they’re cracked up to be, is that travel is sooooo expensive. Flights and accommodation to go anywhere is almost double the price. Luckily for me I already went to Vietnam before the holidays, but for other teachers out there that wanted to go away they would have paid more money then they should have. I could go on some more but the point of this session is not for you to take forever reading my rant but to write your own. Be dramatic. Use details and descriptions. Remember not to give up any personal details and only use first names.

End of Term 3 reflection

Hello all,

Your task today is to comment on this post and answer the following questions:

– one reading skill that you have learnt that has changed the way you read

– one writing task that you really enjoyed and why

– two things from numeracy. One that is something new for you and one thing that is a success for you this term.

– reflect on the homework projects you have completed this term also

– write your own critique on your toy project. What did you do well and why? What do you need to do better next time and why?

With the remainder of your time you can fiddle with your personal blogs by altering the appearance, adding friends or reading other posts and comments.

This is a personal reflection. You don’t need to talk. If you have a question raise your hand.

Blog Checklist

Hello all,

By now we all have our blog page set up and we have chosen our page layout and backgrounds.

Todays session involves a checklist of things for you to follow up. You need to make sure you have done the following things on your blog to be able to move onto the next part of blogging.

– Update your Avatar.

– Create a VOKI and place it on your blog

-Create a post with a story and a question that you want users to answer through a comment

-Add users to your site

-Comment on at least 3 different blogs that people have added you to thier blog

Whatever you do not get finished today you will have time to finish tomorrow. This is independent work and we have limited time with the computers so do not waste it. If you need help check with the person next to you first then ask the Teachers. Anyone distracted and having random conversations will loose their computer time and complete a hand written task.

Thank-you for your co-operation.

Happy Blogging today 🙂

If these shoes could talk!

I’ve been everywhere man, I’ve been everywhere.

I’ve seen the wonders of the world!
I’ve walked the busy streets of Ho Chi Minh city and been saturated in a torrential downpour that lasted 10minutes. I felt the jungle floor beneath me as I headed toward the Chu Chi tunnels which were smooth on my soles. Angkor Wat was enormous and was one of ten temples visited in a day. I went from humid and sticky temperatures in Cambodia to cold and freezing temperatures when I walked through Tiananmen Square in Beijing. I’ve been to the Olympic stadium called the Birds Nest in Beijing and climbed the Great Wall of China. I’ve marvelled at the Terracotta Warriors and walked the streets of Hong Kong. I’ve felt the cold marble floor of the Taj Mahal and floated along the river Ganges in Varanasi. I’ve walked through god only knows what in the Chitwan National Park and I’ve seen wild rhinos. I’ve even seen Mt Everest.

Do you even realise what your shoes mean to you? It wasn’t until I was faced with the thought of throwing my runners out that I realised all the things I have done while wearing those runners. Is there something in your life that has been with you through some significant events?
Your task is to write from the perspective of an item. In my case it was my shoes but it might be something different for you.

What items are significant to you? A uniform you wore when competeing in your favourite sport, a piece of jewellery or even your bathers that you have worn in various pools, beaches or swims.

Remember to write in a word document first. Edit your writing and then post.

But why?

Don’t you love how little kids always ask ‘why?’

What are some ridiculous questions that you’ve asked or you’ve heard little kids ask?

–    Why are bubbles round?

–    How did the zebra get its stripes?

–    Why is the sky blue?

–    How do they get a led into the pencil?

Or more importantly something I always wonder is What if animals could talk? – there would be more noise- there would be more opinions – you would know if the dog really wanted to go on that walk – we would know what the cat is really thinking when it has that smug look on its face etc.

Look at the pictures below and think about what the animals are really thinking.

Your task is to write a story about one of the pictures above. What is happening? Describe your main characters, setting and scenario. Keep it a short story and make sure you re-read your writing BEFORE you post.

Happy Writing 🙂

Welcome Back!!

Hi all its Mr G, welcome back to term 2 I hope you all had a great holiday. Today you will be writing a persuasive piece to your inter school sports coach, convincing them why you should be selected in your chosen sport without trying out. You need to structure your piece correctly, proof read and edit before posting. Have Fun!!

Your title is: ‘I should be selected in the _________ team without trying out’.

The never ending story….

Your task is to add to this story. It doesn’t have an end. You can add characters, places and actions but make sure you explain them in detail.

The was once an old man who lived in Peru. The city of Cuzco is the capital of Peru and there are many hills. The houses are built on all kinds of angles and the paths are made out of cobble stone which makes it easy to trip and fall. It is also very cold in Peru. So back to the old man. He decided he wanted to take his alpaca for a walk, yep and alpaca. An alpaca called Fred. So he decided to take Fred out for walk………….

Independent blogging

Goodmorning and welcome to your first independent blogging session.

What I mean by that is that this sessions you are going to post a comment to this blog on your own.

By ‘on your own’ I mean you can use the person sitting next to you.

So the task for today:

Working with an opening line:  I have a…….

Here’s my sample; I have a…… dog named Quince and a cat named George Puss. They are best friends and they get up to a lot of mischief. On the weeked just been I had to take George back to the vet. He has this issue where he keeps licking his arms. I know cats don’t have arms as such, more like legs, but I have this thing (that a lot of people have) where I humnaise my pets. That is I treat them like people. So back to my story, I had to take George to the vet on the weekend because he is licking his arms so much he is creating bald patches. Kinda gross I know but, he is dirving me bonkers and he looks really mangy. So off to the vet AGAIN for a second dose of medication and now I have to give him three tablets a day. Have you ever tried giving a tablet to a cat?! Well let me tell you, it’s not an easy thing to do! You have to shove it down thier throat. Do you think they LIKE having something shoved down thier throat? NO! So it often involves claws, scratches and sometimes even biting. Lucky for me George is kinda dopey so it’s actually easy to give hime tablets. The only thing I have to deal with is slobber. Imagine a really slobbery dog, well that’s what my fingers are like after I’ve had to shove tablets down George’s throat.

You will write your comment in a word document. You will THEN re-read your comment and check your spelling, punctuation and grammar. Once you are happy with it THEN you will get your partner to read it and edit it. Once your partner is happy with it THEN you can post it. Your partner must write at the bottom of your comment that it was edited by them.

For example: This piece was edited by Mr G.

Once you have finished this task you can log onto www.multiplication.com to continue practicing your timestables.

Happy Writing 🙂
